Affixing Bottles in Place Without Glue.

Problem: Product was traditionally glued down to a corrugate pad or into vac-form cavities but needed to be held in place without the use of glue. Glue tends to be difficult to remove from product purchased by the customer. Vac-form cavities often obscure or hide the bottom portion of the product. The client also wanted to allow store associates and customers to interchange product from the gift set with other desired product at the store level. This could not be done with product that was glued into place.

Goal: Eliminate the use of glue on product, allow entire product to be visible and allow for product to be easily interchanged at store level all while still maintaining a visually appealing gift set.

Solution: Accel designed a vac-form system called Snap Form in which each bottle fits into a friction-fitting 'puck'. The vac-formed 'puck' then snaps into its designated track along the surface of a base vac-form.

Results: Product was held in place throughout shipping and at store level without the aid of glue. The product was totally visible within the clear 'pucks' and was interchangeable by store associates and customers. Gift set was the client's top seller that season. Accel currently has a patent pending on this conceptual design.

Pre-wrapped Gifts

Project: Our client asked us to pre-wrap a variety of gift set packages for their holiday season.

Challenge: The volume of packages to be wrapped was not high enough to warrant purchasing "latest on the market" fully automatic wrapping equipment. However, the volume, combined with the complexity of various sizes, papers, and bows, and customers demand for a professional "look" made it an absolute necessity to standardize and mechanize as much of assembly process as possible.

Solution: Accel’s engineers teamed with a manufacturer who fabricates high volume wrapping machines to solve the problem. Their solution was to design a lower cost semi-automatic wrapping machine. A prototype was created by incorporating our team’s input and then tweaked a bit for the final model. The final piece of equipment manufactured was able to meet our objectives and allow us to meet our client’s time deadline and price point.

Additional Requirements: Although the equipment was a critical component there were other preparations that needed to be addressed and solved in order to over come the complexity and uniqueness of the project. Accel’s team of engineers designed a production area that was created around combining the processes of raw component delivery, cell assembly for pre-work, and production line style of manufacturing. Fixtures were built to assist in the tying of "Tiffany" style bows on each package.

Final Result: The packages were assembled ahead of schedule, on budget, and with the flawless execution and professional result our client consistently demands.
